I keep making the same mistake — I feel like giving up
Your Situation
You've done something wrong — maybe more than once, maybe the same thing again — and it's starting to feel like there's no point trying anymore.
What to know
This exact feeling is addressed directly and by name in the Quran, in what Ibn Kathir described as the verse that brings the most relief in the entire Quran.
What you can do
Read the verse itself: 'Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins”' (Surah Az-Zumar 39:53) — addressed to people who have already sinned, not people who haven't.
Notice what it doesn't say: it doesn't say 'unless you've done it before,' or 'unless it was serious.' It says all sins.
Despair itself, not the sin, is what this verse most directly warns against — giving up on trying is treated as the bigger problem here.
