I'm grieving — I've lost someone or something I love
Your Situation
Someone or something important to you is gone, and the weight of it hasn't lifted.
What to know
Islam doesn't ask you to suppress grief or perform strength you don't feel — what the Quran praises is what you say and where you turn within the grief, not the absence of grief itself.
What you can do
Say what the Quran describes as the response of 'the patient': 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un' — Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:155-156).
Know that feeling the loss fully isn't a failure of faith — the Prophet ﷺ himself wept at the death of his own son and said, 'The eye weeps and the heart grieves, but we do not say except what pleases our Lord' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1303).
Give yourself time. Grief has no required schedule, and continuing to function — praying, eating, showing up — while still grieving is not a contradiction.
