I'm traveling — can I shorten or combine my prayers?

Your Situation

You're on a journey and wondering whether you're allowed to pray fewer rak'ahs, or combine two prayers into one sitting, instead of praying each one in full at its usual time.

What to know

Allah describes this directly as a concession, not a loophole — when asked why Muslims still shorten their prayers even in times of safety, the Prophet ﷺ called it 'a charity Allah has given you, so accept His charity.'

What you can do

Worth knowing: Shortening and combining are two separate concessions — you can shorten without combining, or combine without shortening, depending on what your journey actually requires that day.
