I can't find a clean place to pray at work or school

You need to pray during work or school hours, but there's no dedicated prayer room, and you're unsure if a random spot 'counts' or if it's okay to just wait until you get home.
What to know
One of the things the Prophet ﷺ described as unique to this ummah is that the entire earth was made a valid place of prayer — you don't need a masjid or a special room; any clean spot is enough, and delaying a prayer past its window isn't a permitted option just because of work.
What you can do
- Look for any reasonably clean, quiet corner — an empty meeting room, a stairwell, a parked car, or an unused desk area all count.
- Keep a small prayer mat or clean cloth at your desk or in your bag so you're not dependent on the floor looking clean.
- If wudu facilities are genuinely unavailable, tayammum is a valid substitute for that prayer.
- A short, respectful conversation with your manager or teacher about needing a few minutes at set times usually resolves this — most workplaces and schools accommodate it once asked.
Worth knowing: Being busy with work or school is not treated as a valid excuse to delay a prayer past its time window — the concession here is about where and how you pray, not about waiting until you're free. If your schedule genuinely makes on-time prayer impossible on a given day, that's worth discussing with a knowledgeable person about your specific circumstances.
