I don't know what dua to make

You want to make dua but aren't sure what to say, or feel like you need special or formal words.

What to know

Dua doesn't require Arabic, formal wording, or a fixed formula — the Quran describes Allah as near, responding to whoever calls upon Him, in whatever words are genuine.

What you can do

• Speak to Allah in your own language, in your own words, about exactly what's on your mind.
• If you'd like a simple structure, start with praise of Allah and salutations on the Prophet ﷺ, then ask directly, then close the same way.
• Learning short Quranic or Prophetic duas over time adds beauty and precedent, but isn't a requirement to make dua right now.
